Digipak research

Digipaks were the first among the first alternatives to jewel cases to be used by major record companies. They are often used for CD singles or special editions of CD albums. Such packaging is less resistant to abrasion than jewel cases, so it tends to show signs of wear relatively quickly. Manufactures have sought to reduce environmental impact and improve functionality by introducing recycled components into it's tray.

The look of the digipak needs to convey the style of the artist in the artwork its using. This will need to grab the target audiences eye and needs to have as much detail as possible for them to learn about who they are listening too. A style can be very reflective of the band and show the viewer how much this means to them, this will be shown by the artist using an elaborate metaphor, this is a powerful message but they have to be careful, because it may offend some viewers who read or see this. The metaphor/ message also links the the song and more importantly the lyrics of it, this again helps the viewer gain an insight into what they are about to listen to and whether it is the style they would generally go for. The genre needs to be shown on the cover, from pop music using bright colours to more calm folk and classic which use more water based colours which are faded and calmer. This again links to the music itself and the rhythms tempo(fast, slow, quiet, loud).

I feel that the style of digipak that could be used is the three flap one, opening out. This would be a good choice because it could include a bigger design and more information can be added, booklet can be slipped into one of the folds, giving the audience some information and details about that band.
