YouTube is a video sharing website, with the slogan 'Broadcast Yourself', this gives the general public a free option to show themselves and even make a career out of it. In 2005, YouTube was born, new to the world, giving people an opportunity to share, watch and upload new videos every day. The available content on the website consists of video clips, TV clips, music videos and other content such as video blogging, short original videos and educational videos. Large companies even use the site to show clips and full videos of their programmes, which include CBS, the BBC, Vevo and Hulu, these are part of the YouTube partnership programme. YouTube has helped people gain a career, from gamers to vloggers and musicians to presenters, meaning this would be a great site to use to advertise our new band, it's free to use and billions of people visit the site every day.

Institutional research: music video channels
MTV is a 24 hour entertainment channel, available in the United Kingdom and Ireland. The channel was launched as part of MTV Networks Europe localisation strategy in 1997. The channel was set up to provide audiences with local artists and more relevant content. This meant artists could showcase themselves and their music, marketing themselves to the public and bring in a target audience. However, from 1997 to the present the amount of music videos on the channel have declined, due to the increase in different entertainment shows, including Jackass, Catfish: the TV show and 16 and pregnant, so now they have removed all music and now have launched a new channel, MTV Music, this means that they just show music videos and interviews with artists.
Vevo is a multinational video hosting service, launched in 2009, it hosts videos syndicated across the web, with Google and Vevo sharing the advertising revenue.

4Music is a music and entertainment channel in the United Kingdom. The channel launched in 2008, replacing 'the Hits'. It is the only Channel-4 branded channel within 'The Box Plus Network'. The channel launched with an on-screen countdown counting down from ten minutes down to zero. During the countdown, clips from popular music videos were faded through the screen including clips from promotions for the channel. The channel then launched at 7pm with a promotional advert for the channel then fading into "Davina and Steve's 20 Big Ones"; the first song at number 20 being "The pretender" by The Foo Fighters and Kylie Minogue's "Cant get you out of my head" at number 1.

Promotional adverts, websites and sales
Personal website-includes tour dates, itunes link, promotional video .
Conventions of the advertisement for the digipak are :
- centre text
- Institutional details
- Key phrases eg Out Now!
- Strong image [ possibly from MV]
- Range of font styles and sizes
- Graphics eg lines.
This one has a scrolling text that is like a film. However it is a gig location shot which we will not be able to do. Additionally i think it is too dark for our song.
Rock sound website
Lower Than Atlantis has a website and this is something our band SouthBank would need. It would also be possible to develop synergy through the website.
Rock sound magazine-another promotional technique, this magazine will be bought by many music fans, this gets them out and recognised more. Kerrang, Q and I Love Pop are also possible magazines for our advert. We also need to look at these institutions eg Bauer.
These are different ways Lower than Atlantis have advertised themselves to their audience/fans, these tour date posters are found online and on physical copies, which means it can be viewed by a range of people.
Researching these shows how Lower than Atlantis have advertised and made a mark on their target audience. It gives me an idea of how I could use these images and layout with the advertising side of the brief. They use the same colours through out there adverts, which is black, grey and even a slight bit of pink. I could take this concept and use it for my own work, instead using different colours for our own band. The charts how popular the band is and how much of a fan base they already have.

Digipak research
Digipaks were the first among the first alternatives to jewel cases to be used by major record companies. They are often used for CD singles or special editions of CD albums. Such packaging is less resistant to abrasion than jewel cases, so it tends to show signs of wear relatively quickly. Manufactures have sought to reduce environmental impact and improve functionality by introducing recycled components into it's tray.
The look of the digipak needs to convey the style of the artist in the artwork its using. This will need to grab the target audiences eye and needs to have as much detail as possible for them to learn about who they are listening too. A style can be very reflective of the band and show the viewer how much this means to them, this will be shown by the artist using an elaborate metaphor, this is a powerful message but they have to be careful, because it may offend some viewers who read or see this. The metaphor/ message also links the the song and more importantly the lyrics of it, this again helps the viewer gain an insight into what they are about to listen to and whether it is the style they would generally go for. The genre needs to be shown on the cover, from pop music using bright colours to more calm folk and classic which use more water based colours which are faded and calmer. This again links to the music itself and the rhythms tempo(fast, slow, quiet, loud).
I feel that the style of digipak that could be used is the three flap one, opening out. This would be a good choice because it could include a bigger design and more information can be added, booklet can be slipped into one of the folds, giving the audience some information and details about that band.

Production name-group post
We have been playing around with our names in order to come up with a company name for our production.
Lisa
Shane
Hannah
Reject
Shell music - signifies petrol
LSH Music - could be associated with drug use.

Shannli - sounds strange
Lisanha - sounds like lasagne
Shine Records - unfortunately this already exists.
Selected
Sasha Sounds - this is a combination of the end parts of our names and we think it sounds sassy and it is sibilance which implies sound.

Digipak ideas from this:we could put our company name inside a sash.
Colour scheme - navy blue, black, possibly silver or gold. Although we are a British company, we don't particularly want to go with traditional red, white and blue. Blue is a royal colour that signifies success - it is a symbolic sign.

Research into chosen band
Lower than Atlantis
Members: Mike Duce
Ben Sansom
Eddy Thrower
Declan Hart
Origin: Watford, Hertfordshire, England
Genres: indie rock, alternative rock, hard rock, hardcore punk
History
The band released their debut EP, Bretton via Thirty Days of Night Records on 19 December 2008.This release took on a hardcore punksound which all but disappeared from the band's music after the release of Far Q. They recorded their next release and first full-length album, Far Q, with Daniel Lancaster (of Hertfordshire band Proceed) at Studio Glasseye in Hatfield, England. It was released in March 2010 on A Wolf at Your Door Records in the UK, under the Distort Entertainment label in Canada and for rest of Europe under Redfield Records on limited Mediabook-CD and limited white vinyl. This release retained some element of the band's punk roots whilst gearing itself more towardspost-hardcore/melodic hardcore influences.
On 29 April 2014, the band announced through their Facebook and Twitter pages that they had signed to Sony Records and that their new album would be released via the label.
Duce and Thrower worked with Australian band 5 Seconds of Summer. Duce co-wrote and contributed to vocal production for their song "Heartache On the Big Screen" which appears as a b-side on "She Looks So Perfect". Thrower contributed to additional production and programming for the songs "Don't Stop" and "If You Don't Know".
On 2 June 2014, Lower Than Atlantis announced via Twitter that their upcoming 4th album would be self-titled, they also set a release date of 29 September 2014 and announced they would be doing a July tour.
History of music videos and how institutions get them out to the viewer
Institutions use different forms of media to promote their music videos, back in the 1960s, movies were used to promote a song, giving it a look from the film and it gets it out there, for example the Beatles harnessed the power of film to market their records and express themselves as artists. This worked with a lot of artists, until later, at the end of the 20th century. This was where the birth of music videos began along with music television/channels. MTV was launched in 1981 and still continues to date, with it being now a massive company giving institutions a chance to show off their new stars and artists. This meant sales went up and helped them get the music videos showed and out to the viewers. As technology becomes more advance, so does the music videos, with now Youtube, itunes and music channels, the viewers now have easy access.

New chosen genre
Due to a change of group, I am now researching and looking at ideas for my new chosen genre, which is pop punk. This is a fusion music genre that combines elements of both pop and punk rock, this isn't a big change from my original choice and won't be too difficult to follow. The tempo of the music will be faster which means ASL will be shorter, so it cuts on the beat, this will not be an issue but it something to keep in mind for the future. Artists who use this genre include Paramore, All time low and blink-182.
Also with a change in genre, I feel like maybe the research into my old chosen genre may or may not fit or work, however some of it will go with any style of genre, as long as the lyrics fit, for example the locations I have researched would still work, because they are simple and easy to manipulate to work with the more pop-punk style that my new group have chosen.

Change of group
I have had to moved to a different group due to my partner leaving, so I have decided to work with Shane and Lisa, who have chosen the genre pop punk, which led them to research Paramore for inspiration and ideas. Their chosen song is Emily by Lower than Atlantis, they have done planning and research for this, including their chosen artists, for this they have chosen a group, which are already a band and are wanting to sing and play it, creating a cover version of the song.
